My mother’s side of the family is perversely proud of their slave owning past. According to family lore, they were very fancy and prominent and owned hundreds of slaves.

In my social circle (Greek life, college students, tending toward the party animal end of things), a guy asking a girl out he doesn’t already know well in person in a setting like class or the bookstore or a coffee shop when they just met-cute would be considered a little forward at best and probably super creepy.

I disagree because for better or for worse, cell phones have fundamentally changed the way humans communicate. Most families, younger ones especially, don’t even have land lines these days.

Third grade is when it really sets in. They begin to sort between “rich” and “poor” around kindergarten, but third grade is when the hierarchy of class really starts to emerge.

See my parents were so weird about money that they STILL won’t tell me how much money is in my college savings (I’m a junior in college). When I say “Mom, this really is something I need to know about”, she just says “it’s none of your business. There’s enough, and that’s all you need to know”. It’s very frustrating.
