That’s not really the issue here though. Obviously games taking inspiration from each other is pretty foundational to the medium. But Fortnite specifically has made collaboration a central tenet of their entire ethos. They have shown repeatedly that they are both willing and able to shell out whatever cash they need

Yeah, but based on the article, it sounds like it was something a new team member was doing just to get familiar with the code and stumbled upon, which seems reasonable enough. Doubt it really indicates where their priority is.

There’s been tons of discourse around this very point, it’s definitely a phenomenon. Wouldn’t be surprised if you could do a whole study on it. The article above mentions it a bit too when mentioning “the expectations borne by marginalized creators compared to those whose artistic freedom is never questioned.”

I am personally for BR games with bots when you’re starting out, lets you get a good feel for the game mechanics before putting you right into the thick of it. Test out what does this do, explore the map, and see how the late game plays out. New players don’t get crushed so quickly that they give up and quit.

There is a demo for Toem on Steam if that’s what you’re interested in!

That’s such a deep cut that I’m almost willing to hope that this turns into something good. Even if it just ends up being “remember all this Mario stuff?” that’d be more than what I had been expecting; the most barebones adventure plot but also Mario.

So I guess the dock is just for additional ports then? Or am I forgetting something. Just sounds like the Steam Deck can connect to stuff on it’s own anyway so not sure why you’d need a whole dock in the first place if there’s no power boost.

I would be surprised if it needed online always, seeing as Steam itself has an Offline Mode that works fine without it. Some games may require always online but that would vary by game rather than something on Steam’s end.

Yeah same; I thought it would definitely be one where you had to try to hear it, but uhhh. I agree that it’s almost certainly unintentional, but it’s also wild to think no one on the sound team heard it.

Definitely would agree with that, and honestly wouldn’t be surprised if someone does eventually write something on it. It’s always been strange to me that volume is not standardized across most games, especially since those studio start up reels seem to always be the same anyway.

I think you’re being a bit hyperbolic. You make it sound like they’ve unleashed a torrent of negative articles when in reality they’ve released 1 glowing review, 1 tips article, and 2 criticisms. One of which is just a legitimately broken thing (console multiplayer) and one that is just an accessibility issue.

Agreed. Honestly after the robust DLC support during the games first couple years I contemplated whether or not it had the potential to become a sort of permanent Mario Kart that just gets updated with new tracks/characters every now and then. The formula is basically perfected, I cannot even begin to imagine what

You’d be surprised by ACNH new players, I’m fairly active in some ACNH marketplaces and am consistently surprised by the amount of people who come in and say they just got the game.

This is one of Ikea’s better innovations imo, I have a sidetable from them that has a similar feature which is great since it’s usually where I put my chargers.

From a Forbes article last year:

Yeah exactly; playing with the meta/fourth wall is something you can find in all creative ventures, why not games? One of the best moments of Portal 2 to me is the use of the achievements to deliver the final beat of a joke. Or the entire door clicking achievement sequence in Stanley Parable which is all about mocking

I appreciate the coverage of these former Apple Arcade exclusives as I don’t know if I’d hear about them otherwise. And like the article said, it feels like the hype around these games dies in the time it takes for them to leave exclusivity which is a shame.

I agree, it’s more a question of; will they? I would like to think it’s obvious, but I don’t fully trust Valve (or any major company) to do obvious things.

I think the most significant part of this is it finally officially canonizes Cataclysm, after years of “sort of” answers to whether it’s canon or not.
