I mean, to be perfectly fair, this trilogy started before Marvel started doing all the multiverse stuff so they couldn’t really have predicted that Marvel would run the concept into the ground before they ever got into the bulk of the wacky plot they were planning.

I can only speak from the perspective of a solo dev, but there are instances where 3D is simply much more... malleable than 2d. It’s not always a matter of budget.
