I listen to his show pretty regularly, and believe me, I was also surprised and a little ashamed at how much I enjoyed it at first - until I realized how much it has apparently changed over the past few decades. He definitely still has that shock jock attitude at some points (especially in regards to the sex lives of

there's a reason I've listened loyally since 1988.

Yeah, Stern's always been a fantastic interviewer. Pretty much the Terry Gross of dudes. He asks smart, incisive questions, doesn't back down when he smells a story, and respects and befriends his subjects. If I'd been in charge of CNN when Larry King (usually a horrible interviewer) stepped down, I would've given the

Okay, Tristen's mom, thanks for weighing in. By the way, you should feel bad for giving him that name.

But did you hear how he called her and how she called him at home? They had a whole system worked out that involved calling for the weather update at a specified time and then calling each other so the call would beep in on the other line, rather than causing the phone to ring and drawing attention from parents. They

But I think you're missing something— which is that this was well before everyone had personal cell phones. Hae didn't have a mobile, so are you suggesting that Adnan (or anyone else, for that matter) would call her parents repeatedly while everyone knows she's missing? Especially when her parents didn't know him or

"I'm Ira Glass, today on our show..." Eeeeeeeee!

Not to mention that Ira has one of my fav voices ever. I just want to give him a hug and blow his nose!

I'm an avid podcast listener and have been for some time, so let me just say: Serial is popular because it's fucking GOOD. I don't know what's 'hipster' about false imprisonment but I'm glad that Serial is making podcasts more popular.

does anybody else feel in their bones that Jay did it?

Where are you getting the whole "he wasn't even worried about her" part? I don't think that's been established at all. And we never heard more from Jay. We heard someone paraphrase was Jay said. That's not the same thing.

Jay's testimony was part of it, but it was all wrapped up in the whole, "look at this duplicitous double life!" that they used to cast doubt on Adnan's character.

Wait Wait Don't Tell me and This American Life (which spawned Serial and of which the first Serial podcast was an original episode that I listened to in my car live) are National Public Radio programs that have been around since the 90s. These aren't new, hip phenomena. Frankly I'm thrilled that podcasts of these

Literally everyone I know who is listening to Serial was already listening to podcasts, just there was nothing all of us were listening to.

Yeah, I'm not saying the Best Buy call was Hae calling from Best Buy, she'd most likely be calling from Woodlawn High School (where I'm sure there were pay phones). And I believe that there aren't any numbers tied to the incoming calls. They only have a record of the number dialed on the outgoing calls.

Yeah, that really got me too. One of the criticisms of Serial is that Sarah isn't a "real" detective who isn't necessarily aware of what is considered standard police work or why police may have done what they did. But I think that's helpful, because this isn't a police report; this is a podcast for people who don't

Someone who's avoiding something popular, just because it's popular, shouldn't be tossing the word "hipster" around as an insult. :)

I woke up at 4 am the other day, out of a dead sleep, with the theory that the 2:36 pm "Best Buy" call was actually Hae calling Jay to meet up to confront him about cheating on Stephanie. If Adnan did ask Hae for a ride, he probably told her that Jay was borrowing his car and cell phone. Hae had Adnan's number (he'd

What I've come to learn from this is that the job of the police/prosecutor is not to find objective truth but to make the best case they can and get a conviction.

The scariest part of serial so far was when the police expert called the detectives' work, "average to above average." >:-O=
