Even as an infant I refused to get myself dirty, there's old home video of me being VERY displeased about spilling chocolate syrup on my hands and rushing to wash it off.

I sweat a fair bit and after waking up from bed I feel grimy and sort of sticky. It's just not very pleasant and I feel a lot fresher after a wash.

As

Uh. Why? Culture isn't sacrosanct. It's an artifact created by human beings, nothing more. Like all creations of humans it will be full of a medley of terrible ideas and practices.

Actions done for any reason that cause harm to another human being without consent(you're kidding if you think that children can consent to

It's a toggleable magnet basically. Think electromagnet but without the need for maintaining power to it constantly

Cultural practices, like anything in life, should be called in question CONSTANTLY. We don't move forward as a species by refusing to have the tough discussions about what in our societies is good/bad.

Culture should always take a back seat to the actual people who make up the culture.

Suspected but wasn't entirely sure! It's distressing how many people here are amuses or think it was somehow justified.

But your words without U's just feels so.....empty! Everybody knows that the longer a word is the better it is

It also depends what you do for a living. When I worked in fast food I spent a lot of time in a greasy 35C+ kitchen. Showering after that was a must, and I just can't feel awake and ready to face the day until I've showered....so twice a day it was

This is a pointless issue to bring up. Us refusing to water in NA has absolutely 0 bearing on access to clean water elsewhere.

Wrong. Body odour(learn to spell) isn't just created by media campaigns. I sweat a LOT and it stinks. Bathing doesn't need to mean dousing yourself in soaps and perfumes. I wash with water to get rid of sweat and dirt, ever since I ditched all the body washes and moved to my daily regime I smell tons better and feel a

I'm not american and I shower daily. I feel disgusting if I don't, it's got nothing to do with consumerism

Every day. I used to shower twice daily when I worked in a kitchen(fast food = hot and greasy), but now that I'm in a comfy office job just once is fine. I only wash my hair every 3 days or so though, anything more and my scalp will explode from dryness.

I would guess that the portion about it being bad for your immune system is BS. Most bodywashes people will use aren't anti-bacterial and you can't run the water hot enough to actually kill any bacteria on your body.

Shower away

Agreed, I'm not sure how he would have missed the fact that she doesn't always react rationally

Fair enough, I'm not knowledgeable of these pictures to divine the intent I guess

Not so new, I'm well aware of Jezebels empathy gap problem.

Damn. Good thing I have more to offer women than a hunk of flesh

I'm not sure if this is an indictment of me or of the poster I was responding to.

Didn't say it was. I'm drawing the parallel because the subject matter is similar: people being mutilated against their will and it is a serious matter where we should be poking fun at the victim or being flippant about it

Why would you be amused by someone being genitally mutilated? Is it appropriate for me to step into discussions about FGM and crack wise? (the answer is no, no it is not)

This. I was surprised as hell to learn that she wasn't, you know, in fucking jail. Or at the very least in custody pending a hearing.
