Good list but there are a few caveats.

Wow, that’s just nuts. You have some very strange financial concepts in the US. This seems to be an inducement to borrow larger amounts simply for the sake of it.

I learned the “yield for people walking up hill” just a couple of weeks ago. I found it rather odd, only because we ran into a couple of trail runners while we were hiking up a hill and I thought it would be much faster for our group to take a quick breather while they ran past us than to force them to stop their

That will happen naturally.  It’s the reason you bring him along!

Stay on the right side of the path except to pass. (Or stay on the left if you are in a left-handed driving country). Please don’t be “that person” who feels they are special and can use whatever side of the path they feel like today. WTF. Why do people do this? So irritating to see one of these special cases

“Slowest Hiker Should Lead”

This. If you know your dog is a biter, you shouldn’t be giving him extra opportunities.

I’m going to get backlash for this, but to everyone saying “my dog will bite yours if it runs up to us, so keep your dog on a leash,” your aggressive dog needs to stay home. A dog that you know is a risk to bite should never be in a public space. The owness is on you to keep the dog home if you have a biter.

In bear country I sort of expect to hear people talking.

Concentrate the noise making at corners, or when approaching areas of heavy vegetation.

Although addressed under “watch your volume”, no external music REALLY needs it’s own separate bullet point. I’m a lifelong hiker and this bullshit has picked up in a big way over the last few years.

Had a lovely hike ruined a few years ago (yes I still remember) by a guy in another hiking party who would not shut. the. fuck. up. Just running commentary for +8 miles at the top of his voice. I couldn’t out-pace them, and I didn’t want to let them ahead because my chances of viewing any wildlife would have been nil

For the people bringing up dogs, I agree with the “keep them leashed” sentiment, EXCEPT, in certain states (say CT), there are some trails where leashing your dog is not mandatory or law. I fully believe in these places, and these places only, off leash dogs are 100% acceptable. There are only one or two of these

The single-file hiking is a pet peeve of mine. My partner and I hike a lot, often side-by-side so we can talk, and we always make sure to go single-file when hitting blind corners, or hearing/seeing other hikers.

Going down is hell on the joints, but it’s easy to get started moving again after stopping to let someone by.

Put a bell on your pack.

The whole term “starter home” is lame because it’s a way of signaling wealth someone hasn’t even accumulated yet and will inevitably offend people. Around my parts, some people think it’s acceptable to call their $800k house a “starter home”... what does that say to everyone else who will never afford that, that their

I;m not against buying a house with someone you aren’t married to but it seems a bit odd to buy a house with someone you’ve never lived with ALONE before.

I live in NJ and I have a hard time relating to a $400k ‘stater home’.

I’m all for paying off your house ASAP regardless of the interest. Its a security thing to me. Sure, I can invest that money and make 5% instead of acruing 3.5% in interest, but that 5% can also go negative REALLY QUICKLY because of something arbitrary and out of your control, such as a certain President starting a

Readers in the middle of the country may have a hard time relating to “400k Starter Home”, but I guess that’s a reality for areas of the country that I don’t frequent.
