Second babies tend to come waaaay faster.

My toddler threw a cup at my newborn while I was bathing him today. Thank god she doesn’t have the strength to pick him up and lock him somewhere (unless maybe she secretly does??).

Ugh, I am so sorry- that's horrifying.

I was very anxious about excessive interventions, too. My first child was delivered by a midwife in a hospital, which was the best of all worlds (for me). She was incredibly supportive, and her practice had a very low c-section rate. Because I was in a hospital I was still able to get an epidural if I wanted, and I

Squats! Do millions of squats. Episiotomies are not recommended anymore and I don't think many providers do them.

“Apply liberally” is written in the directions on the sunscreen- she's just quoting the tube.

We actually love Honest diapers. My daughter has never had a leak in them, ever.

Liberally works there. It just means that she applied a lot.

I agree that the tray table is totally gross, but I’ve also learned since having a child that many planes don’t have changing tables available. Flight attendants will encourage you to change the baby on the seat (also gross, and really difficult).

Just a small correction, but the Cloisters is part of the Met. The Met does have a suggested donation, but MoMA has an astronomical (required) admission fee. I also recommend the Morgan Library for small, often literary exhibits.

I did the same thing— I was attended by a midwife at a hospital in New York, and it was an amazing experience. I’m too high strung for a stand-alone birth center, so this was the perfect compromise for me. I live in a state now where midwives don’t deliver in hospitals (or at least not in my city), and I’m

Neither of us have any idea what actually happened here, and I’m disinclined to believe someone who carries around a gun with them, honestly. However, your comments that homeless people do and don’t do certain things are overly simplistic and offensive.

I am extremely pro gun control and as a parent of a young toddler cannot imagine keeping a weapon on my body, but I think you’re making some unfair assumptions. Based on the information here it’s not clear whether or not the situation was escalating, and saying that “the worst thing that can happen to you is that they

I don’t think anyone’s choice to breastfeed or not is a good or bad thing—do whatever works for you. You can still breastfeed when they have teeth, though, as my very toothy toddler would attest. And no matter they still need breastmilk or formula until 1.

Hopefully my children will be smart enough to figure something out. Doesn't seem too complicated.

We hyphenated the kids’ names. It’s kind of a clunky last name, and is pretty long, but it was the best compromise we could come up with. It’s grown on me.

The link was added and the mistake corrected after these comments were posted.

That's good to know. The city still has a long way to go when it comes to accurately portraying its past, but I do think some progress is being made.

I'm not criticizing the admission fee, especially as a former museum worker myself. I haven't been to the Old Slave Mart since a high school field trip about 20 years ago, and can't remember how the information is presented there.

I think the author meant the Old Slave Mart, where slaves were sold (and there is an admission fee). You are right that the market on Market street is different.
