Me, Awaiting the Responses: A Portrait
Lily Allen, the absolute epitome of bland nothingness.
Is she really criticizing people for being "sterile" here? What the fuck? Lily Allen has progressively made it difficult for me to defend her, especially after she came out with that stupid song/video. Maybe it's just me who thinks she used to be this way and not always, but I liked her when she critiqued people sans…
people were taking drugs and having a lot of fun and having sex with each other
"I feel like when I was growing up and dreaming of being a pop star, it was the days of Britpop when things felt authentic and anarchic and people were taking drugs and having a lot of fun and having sex with each other. So excuse me if I found it a bit disappointing when I arrived and it was a bunch of sterile…
Wait a second. They weren't "having a lot of fun and having sex with each other", but they ostracized her when she "wasn't able to go out and party"? So...which is it?
Um...
I really like Lilly Allen but I can't help thinking she's one of those people that has a complaint or is unimpressed by everything. The reason I feel that way is because it takes one to know one.
Playing the victim once again i see.
"has nine children by five women and custody of exactly zero" if you asked some white racists the color of the father I suspect they would be surprised to see who it is.
"I'll stop making them when they stop taking them"
Robin Roberts, Good Morning America anchor, publicly came out on Sunday, via a touching Facebook post thanking fans,…
UGHHHH. Any other frequent Gawker readers sick of seeing commenters write stuff like, "Go back to Jezebel", or otherwise using Jezebel as an insult??? I need to vent, because I am sooo tired of this!
No mention of her in Parks & Rec? You no longer exist to me as a person, Doug.
I could have been clearer. Here is my personal, abbreviated, and probably flawed take on what Krakauer was getting at:
I will second "Under The Banner of Heaven." It's a beautiful work of journalism.
The author, Jonathan Krakauer, makes a fairly reasonable case that Mormonism, and by extension, all religions, are apt to be taken seriously and literally by enthusiasts, and that the more seriously and literally a religion is taken, the more it looks like a cult.
Read the "No Longer Quivering" blog - it's full of (mostly) women telling their stories of how they got involved with and eventually left (mostly) christian patriarchy groups. it's under the "NLQ stories" tab. It's important to know that there ARE christian religious cults, and they're not always obvious to outsiders.
Stories from Jonestown (surviving Jonestownians), Moonwebs (Moonies), Monkey On a Stick (Hare Krishnas) are all first rate. And, of course, Under the Banner of Heaven (Mormons).
