I have three thoughts on this...

Any debatable advantages Lightning has over USB-C are weak compared to the advantage of being able to use one cable to charge any and all of your devices.

If by “alternative” you mean “terrible” and “uniformed”, you’d be correct!

Aside from that one thing, USB-C has much faster data speeds and can support 100w charging. I’ll take USB-C thanks.

Closing out her accounts seems like kind-of a grey area and I wouldn’t do it. That could lead to some legal troubles. Not that I think Strongsad would be wrong to do it, but because it could somehow cause a perceived damage to the entity and they might be inclined to sue.

On a surge strip, like the one she linked to, there is usually a reset button of some kind. This pops if a surge is detected and the device is deactivated. The “circuit breaker” controlling these is usually a 15amp fuse.
