Hey, I can definitely get behind that! Love costume design. And I'd agree with that for Avengers, mainly because it's hard to make costumes for superheroes that don't strain the imagination to the point of feeling silly, or off. It's all got to fit together, and with The Avengers, with so many different characters,

Absolutely agree. There has been some great sci-fi work done on the small screen recently!

How about the Academy starts acknowledging the existence of comedy and sci-fi / fantasy? Especially, you know, sci-fi / fantasy. Beyond the usual sound editing / special effects awards.

Seems like Doug isn't an MMA fan, but even if you "frown on MMA" as he clearly does, I'd expect Jezebel to jump on this — this was a HUGE step forward in women's sports equality.

But of course! Had a premonition, did you? :)

Awesome! Always interested in a new series :)

Actually it's from the Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody series. If you haven't read it, you must — turn of the century archaelogists, over the top spy and murder plots, witty dialogue, adorable characters. You haven't lived until you've read Emerson and Peabody shouting at each other.

I second the suggestion re: Meetup groups! Even if it's just a book group or group of joggers, it helps to find people you share an interest with.

Adorable name, btw. Makes me think of dear Sherlock and his sheet.

I had a guy do a sort of reverse this to me once — he picked up my phone when I was away from the table and put his number in it, then informed me when I got back that I had needed his number so he took care of it. I was pretty affronted by his.... effrontery.

I did some research on differing socialization norms in men and women in college, and found some interesting work done regarding (in general) women's conversational patterns.

Any Community fans here?

Yeah, looking back now it seems a little... Dysfunctional? But I wonder if he wasn't trying to say what you just said — that ere are different types of beauty and that mine was less conventional. Maybe. I'd like to think. :)

I would think, too, that a lot of the power of hair color is psychological — not just the change of color that suits your face and coloring, but knowing that you've done something that makes you more attractive. Even if she is blind, there's no reason why she can't do something that others tell her suits her

I think another helpful way to deal with this could fall to the coach / teacher.

I was a huge fan of the musical — loved it to bits, know all the songs, etc — and enjoyed the book. I was looking forward to the movie SO MUCH.

I remember the night I stayed up late with my dad talking, and he told me what I'd known for a long time — that my sister was "the pretty one."

Dear god. "You don't even have the decency to send a full-size horse? I am deeply wounded, sir!"

Yeah, totally know what you mean!

Glad you reached out!
