Yea its pretty great that they’re realizing that outright track time and objective performance does not equate to fun. But a miata this is not. You find me a mid engine miata with a V12 that revs to 11k rpm.

I know I‘ll never see one, and every single one will be sold to war criminals and labor thieves, but the engineering behind the car is cool, and I want it to exist.
You obviously don’t get what Porsche sport cars are all about. If you have to whine about driving a manual you should be driving an SUV.
EV sounds trying to be anything other than what they are are the absolute worst trend I can think of. A loud ICE exhaust, whether is sounds bad (most of them) or good (very few), is at least the result of modifying sound waves generated for a practical purpose - propulsion.
what an atrocious take
I have driven through LA traffic for 25+ years with 3 pedals, starting from a B5-gen A4, followed by a trio of 3-series (two e46, one F30), and now my 982. Except for the first 3 years, I’ve always had a second car with an automatic that I could choose to drive.
I have been lurking on this site for years now. This site has had its ups and downs, but I stay because there is still some glimmer of Jalopnik that I loved (shoutout to Mercedes Streeter!).
This article isn’t just research-lite, but it goes against the very definition of Jalop. I never thought I’d ever see an article…
Yes, that was exactly my first thought. We’ll played, @Daniel Golson, well played. You almost had me.
Is this post is a really bad attempt at sarcasm? As a current owner of a flat-4 718 Boxster, who previously owned a Tesla, and also currently own a PHEV, this take is so awful, I seriously believe teenage youtube influencers have a better sense of cars.
Im not sure ive ever read an article i disagree with more. Im an EV proponent and excited for the Boxster EV but you just complained about all the things i actually love about a boxster. Hopefully lots of people have your opinion and i can get a last gen bosxter manual used for cheap.
The pop-out cupholders suck, which likely makes the car a non-starter for a lot of customers.
This was why I disliked Tesla fanboys even before Musk revealed himself to be who he really is.
No to all of this. True joy behind the wheel involves some degree of earning your success. All of these cars are too capable, too numb, it’s been that way for a long time, and it’s going to get much worse with an electric drivetrain. (And even the best electric steering systems are a downgrade from hydraulic). If your…
Sooo .. an EV Boxster:
Weight going from 3000 to 3600 ... a BIG deal
EV sounds ... a BIG deal
Complaining about manuals .. in a Porsche .. because of city driving. Right.
Complaining about sportscar mileage in a city .. you’re not using it right
Talking about how useful a 2 seater convertible is regarding storage space ..…
My 2011 Acura TSX has a 6 Speed manual with no auto rev-matching or other fancy aids. My 1992 Toyota MR2 turbo has a 5 speed manual with no auto-rev matching or other fancy aids. I’ve never wished either car were an auto. Not on a back road. Not in traffic. Not looking forward to an automatic Boxster, whether electric…
My eyes glazed over the moment you complained about the manual.
Hi... I hate manual transmissions. Can I write an article about the 718? This reminds me why I hate Jalopnik and the kids that write for it.
if you care about cup holders, The Boxster was never the right car for you. Its like complaining about a quiet exhaust on a minivan.
