To me that feels like buying a dishwasher that will clean my plates and silverware more efficiently, but won’t work with pots and pans the few times I have to wash them. Why would I want to buy that more efficient dishwasher over the one that works for all my dishwashing-related cases?

(coming from an owner of both ICE

This is where AWD roadsters come in especially handy. I always get strange looks when I’m driving topless (the car, not me) in sub-zero weather...but I’m having so much fun I don’t really notice them or the cold.

Modern cars are great for commuters. They’re not great for enthusiasts (heavier, more isolated with less feedback, not as engaging with computers doing a lot of the work, etc.).

I think a lot of people get “fast” cars mixed up with “fun” cars (especially if they don’t have a lot of driving time between the actual fun

If you asked me ten (or twenty?) years ago what my ‘perfect’ car would be, it would have had the following traits:

You just have to get creative...

That said, I’m apparently unusual since garage size is usually at the top of my list of things to look for in a house...Next house will probably be an eight car garage attached to a closet and an outhouse.

Obscure to normal people? Or obscure to car enthusiasts?

AMS Murtaya. Japanese powertrain, British design, American specs, Italian-sounding name. Also the size of a Miata, but has AWD with front and rear LSDs, driver controlled center dif, 6-speed manual, and turbocharged boxer engine (300-400hp usually).

After AMS

Nobody will see this since I’m a perma-grey, but...it was a cool topic. To be honest, I think I’ve achieved my dream garage. I’ve always found achievable goals more interesting than pie-in-the-sky goals (much like finding the cute girl next door more attractive than some movie star I’ll never meet), so these might

I heard they might have been Pontiac, Saturn, Plymouth, and Mercury...

But...they aren’t? My Plaid is fast, but incredibly boring, unengaging, and not fun compared other ICE cars. Unlike my other cars, I’d never take the EV out for a fun drive—if I try, I just get back wondering why I drove around in a big circle. The other cars? I get sore from smiling and do another circle.

EVs are

Yeah, I assembled a six-page-long list when I got mine. Still missed the resprayed paint around the right tire well that my PPE guy later caught.

They honestly do have the quality of a factory built kit car (a well put together one, at least). I can list all the similarities between the two...but I’m always in the grey

I’m guessing this is a plan to increase Tesla sales...by having a lot of the existing cars crash and need replacements?

I don’t have FSD, but even autopilot—when used legally and “properly”—doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense over just driving the car. For example, you have to pay just as much attention as you would while actually driving, and you need to be able to take over at any time, which means a potential change of context. Even

I love these discussions!

Disclaimer: I’ve owned a Model S Plaid for a couple years now and have driven about a half dozen different EVs.

My opinion is that EVs are great for people who hate driving, but because of those very same characteristics, they’re a very boring experience for people who love driving.

I’ve found

Guys, the shift control is only used by people who can’t accept the future. These cars are smart enough to shift themselves! Check out how smart it is:

If you love a car, getting in and out being a pain is not a big deal. In fact, it can almost be bragging rights.

Plus, there are cars out there with ingress/egress that make Miatas feel like limos. At least Miatas have a full door, unlike this one:

The cars with no door handles at all. Clean looking, the most aerodynamic, and you don’t have to worry about locking them.

Granted the State Patrol officer at the registration appointment complained about first responders not being able to open it or something like that, but cross that bridge.....

Absolutely—most cars have no need for a “soul”. Especially if people are just using them for commuting. EVs are great for that.

But if you ever get to drive a fun and engaging car, you might realize that the desire for a car to have soul is not grasping for straws—it’s actually a very apt and valid description...and

Yeah. In fact, a 0-60 in 2 second car can also be soulless. Fast does not necessarily mean fun.

Trust me. I have a soulless 2 second 0-60 car. Literally. ;)

Totally agree: as a Plaid owner, it’s fast, but is not interesting to drive. People who have never driven fun cars tend to get “fast” and “fun” confused. Fast and fun cars have been diverging for a while. If you want fast, you get cars where the computer controls everything. If you want fun, you get cars where the

I know a lot of people are wondering what the big deal is about and consider this a lot of fuss about a “few pixels”, but as a UI developer who takes accessibility very seriously and a Tesla owner (and somebody who can finally use some of my professional knowledge and experience on a car enthusiast site!), I’m glad
