I’ll take that as a compliment.

OH NO A SLIPPERY SLOPE MADE OF WINE I CANNOT TURN AWAY
I’ve had people ask me to “just call.” I almost always say no, and point out that a written reference is, well, a reference. Very important. I do feel like there’s an age component to this, but I no longer care. Too many times burned by people not remembering discussions.
To me what you just wrote reads as: I much prefer to keep information informal and off the record, so down the road no one can reference who exactly said/did what, and I can either A) pretend key info was never passed on to me, B) pretend I initiated conversation/ideas/research, etc.
Did you notice how the OP’s referring to a colleague, not her supervisor?
Fucking negging.
*rage
It really does come from the POV of a person who is accustomed to being the Important One and being catered to.
(Plus? Even though I start grey, I usually finish black. I don’t think you can even get those odds in Vegas.)
Correct on all counts! I cannot believe the thick-skull responses here from the dudebro coalition.
Doesn’t need “Hey Dan” or “–Jenny”.
Truly.
Also replying to a post like hers with “Angelica— MAN HERE— Don’t ever write an email like that again.” ?
Do it. It will piss him off and because he does it himself he won’t be able to complain about it.
All of what she outlined is important information. Just because reading is harder than you’ll ever be doesn’t mean it’s not important.
She knows he hates all of it, but she shouldn’t have to change. She is fully informing her co-worker, which is just being a thoughtful and thorough colleague. She’s also creating a paper trail so his future idiocies don’t come back on her (which I’m sure he resents).
It is a power differential thing. Lots of people—but I’ll be honest, usually dudes—assert themselves by withholding info and being markedly casual in writing. If they’re not doing it on purpose, they’ve been taught to believe that they don’t owe others the time and effort it takes to share their work in depth. They’ve…
I wish people would just make more dance shows!
Oof. That’s always a weird thing, to see people you don’t like on tv.
I totally mainlined it, but I’m pretty sure that it’s terrible on a technicality. :)
