This happens in dance movies all the time though, because the protagonist will be chosen for (slightly) better acting ability or their “look” or whatever, and the others will be dancers chosen because they can dance.

It was way weird. I kept wishing for more dancing!
If you couldn’t get into it, probably not. The writing has some real low points and even though I found it addicting I wouldn’t describe it as “good.” I found it highly watchable, but so’s a train wreck.
This is a really good summary. I watched it in like three days and then I was like, wow. What just happened.
That was good but could have been way longer.
So this might be too much, but could you describe the experience? I super need Lasik and am SUPER afraid of it. Like, did you know they were cutting your eye? Were you physically aware of it? What was it like???
I know you’re joking, but most hacking wouldn’t be to see what you’re seeing. That’s spy stuff, and few of us randoms are worth the effort. Any hacks in this case would be to show you things, like ads.
Care to link to the book? I’d love to read that.
I had an Armenian boyfriend for a long time and his name was Hratch. He went by Tom, which is much less cool but one of three names a barista won’t ever misspell.
I just had to look that up for context—I read his statements as being more about populism and entertainment (eg “if the Academy cared about what the people like, this would win”) with a healthy dash of excited hyperbole. Which I think is actually a pretty good criticism of the Academy Awards... even though I don’t…
He’s actually a notorious ham and silly dude (seriously check out his Facebook) ... not sure why anyone would want to avoid him!
I like this song enough, it reminds me of 90's pop singles a la the wave of Christina (pre Xtina), Jessica, etc. It’s not a great song but it’s a fun song, and we all know someone else wrote it and the reason we don’t like it is because Trainor is Trainor. The video is uniquely horrible.
???
I haven’t been to the church of my parents in some time—or, regrettably, any formal church—but I remember sitting through sermons as a child because they were my favorite part (it was Sunday School, etc., that I hated). They were essentially lectures, delivered much like an academic lecture (including references shown…
I grew up similarly but had more of a mixed bag experience. I still consider myself a Christian, but I do not agree with the evangelical point of view typically, and loathed the church growing up (I would drink oil because it would make me vomit and miss Sunday school, is how much I disliked it). I thought it was…
I think personal experiences in this area are strongly influenced by physical location and interests... for example, I was raised non-denominational evangelical, and I grew up to be interested in liberal politics, feminism, and work in a creative field in coastal California. I definitely feel like, and acknowledge…
As a designer my two cents is that this seems very much like one of those lawsuits that are actually marketing in disguise. AKA: now we’ve all heard of I Love Jewelry.
This is just so good. I need to figure out how to incorporate this into more parts of my day.
Oh, I love Mallory Ortberg (I believe that’s the new Prude), though not for the Dear Prudence column. I’m a disciple of The Toast, where she write a lot, which is a much smaller internet pub that pretty much hits it out of the park with every other article imo. http://the-toast.net/
That was my point. If More wanted to succeed in that demographic, they needed to focus on providing more substantial content.
