I think your point about ‘culture’ is exactly right. The more we are exposed to cultures other than our own, and to people who look and dress differently from us, the more we realize how diverse the world is and how limited our previous experience was.

The chef, Cristeta Pasia Comerford, is pretty special. She was first appointed by Laura Bush in 2005, and again in 2009 by Michelle Obama and is the first Asian female executive chef at the White House.

People in Toronto (where I’m from) are exposed to other cultures daily. I am within walking distance of Little India, Little Vietnam, Little Greece and a neighbourhood dominated by Afghani and Ethiopian restaurants. And that’s just a small part of a very large city.

And of course the bitter, bitter irony of it all is that he is habitually, almost obsessively dishonest.
