I hadn’t thought of it that way, particularly because Oprah has made it her career to be relatable. Thanks for providing a different take!

I found it infuriating that in introducing Winfrey at the Golden Globes, the first black woman to receive the Cecil B. DeMille award, that she talked about her HUGS. WTAF? Really, of all her incredible accomplishments she needed to apply special focus on her freaking hugs?

This guy created the account this week, and has mostly been trolling The Root for being racist (just so you have some idea of what this jerk is about). He has called other commenters bitches and bigots (for the sin of pointing out racism).

I dunno. I think it’s more important for him to be on the right side of history, and on the side of all women by refusing to act in Woody Allen’s next film.

They know they made a huge mistake

S/He has only been around since December and seems to be going out of his/her way to say only progressive-sounding things. It’s weird. It’s like playing the part of a left-of centre, deeply committed Democrat as imagined by an alt-right Republican.

How are you reading my thoughts right now??!!

I mean, I’m not complaining because I love eggplant, and it’s one of the staples of my culture’s cooking, so I got a lot of side-eye from relatives. But I lost 20 years of eggplant!

There is no question that these fantasies are often rooted in patriarchal strictures, but I

Should we even broach the subject of BDSM? Where these often violent fantasies are acted out by consenting partners?

Mr. Mouse turned me onto VSB, which in turn turned me on to The Root. You all are a daily pleasure. I’ve learned so much just by reading you and the wonderful commenters on this site. Thank you.

Just came to say how much I love your writing here. There are lines that are sheer poetry.

yet she still has non consensual sex with him

Deer has a history of comments that are the equivalent of “Actually, let me tell you what it’s really like for people who are not me”. Seriously, not worth your time or anyone else’s.
