Yeah, in the first movie Bale’s doing a Keaton-esque whisper, which is my favorite Batman voice (well, tied for favorite with Conroy). Not sure what possessed him to adopt the scratchy growl for the second and third movies.

I just hate that in the second and third movie his Batvoice seems to require such an effort. It's not only that it sounds ridiculous, he looks silly because it's such an unnatural sound to make.

Yes... Kevin Conroy voiced the character in several DCAU projects and it was perfect! Although in animation, the voice was never cartoonish and even sounded menacing enough when necessary, while still perfectly understandable.

It works in Begins. It's terrible in the second and third movie.

Oh I didn’t have any trouble understanding him, it was just such a clearly affected voice which sounded as stupid as all get out, and frankly made it very hard for me to take him seriously.
