Maybe not certain, but right: Lambic is Belgian beer, made from wild yeast, with an optional fruity component. Kriek is the best known lambic - the cherry one.
The proper heat wave will not reach us until next week, which doesn’t hinder Alice and Bob to portray suffering from heat stroke.
Not really the case in Central Europe: people are aware that stuff needs translation as they just have to cross any of the (by US standards) close by borders to experience a country with a different language.
That’s a different sort of education at German speaking universities.
Yes, linguists tend to be in the more technical areas of the language services industry as a whole. Machine translation, terminology work, stuff like that.
Most translators/people in the translation industry seem to focus on 2 languages other than their native one - I really don’t know where that idea of ‘lots’ of languages comes from.
I used to be in the language services industry (translation and the likes) but as an Account Manager. So many people assumed that I really must know a lot of languages. No. I’m fluent in two, know the basics in another one and can read menus in another 1-3. But really proficient: 2.

Headache is thankfully gone, but soreness persists. Might have something to do with the fact that I was at the gym again this morning and had lots of arm and leg stuff in today’s joy.
Still wavering around in finding a good new training solution for my weightlifting. If Saturday has bad weather as forcast right now, I’ll try a pure weightlifting gym, go to their technique class. Just unwilling to sacrifice a beautiful summer day to spend inside the gym.
Free advice. Gratis. I’m prone to complain of a case of Mondays until I think of Mr Krimi who in 3 workdays will have 2 intercontinental and 2 continental flights. And am suddenly glad for my low stress job alowing me to enjoy a bit of summer.
My current audiobook is Snuff by Terry Pratchett - I’ve read it before but I like to listen to it while folding laundry or knitting a bit to relax.
Thank you, but they’re dead easy and not a lot of work. Maybe I make a cheater‘s version? Basically a nice chocolate cake, cut into three tiers and then filled with cream, cherry and kirsch...
Birthday BBQ, birthday person asked for Black Forest cake, was a good excuse to make one again.
Nice summer evening, I wanted a drink but no alcohol. Luckily, I still have some Seedlip (alcohol free ‘gin’) at home, a cucumber tonic and pimped that with a bit of cucumber bitters and had a nice, refreshing drink in my hand. I love having this slightly fancy non-alcoholic options.
Hope you had a bit of fun at the party!
When I say unpopulated, I mean unpopulated by central European standards. I’m rather certain that unpopulated by US (especially midwest) standards is a different beast entirely.
