The Orville is better at being Star Trek than any Star Trek we’ve gotten in... well, decades.

Including the alt-timeline reappearance of the security officer who had left the show.
They’ve been called “killer whale” since forever. “Orca” became the politically correct term when conservation efforts ramped up. Because you’re less likely to have sympathy for something called a “killer”. I still call them killer whales, because for me personally, that makes me want to save them more. Pansy-ass…
I liked the smoothness of the Hobbit, and it was thus super jarring during the barrel escape down the river when they had a couple cuts to what looked like low end GoPro footage.
It’s just an aesthetic choice, which is particularly important in fictional movies, when more realism can give away some of the illusion. For something like sports, it sounds great to me.
Don’t forget that a notable number of digital movie theaters still use 720p projection. We don’t exactly hear people crying in the aisles that they “need mo’ K”.
Do you think if she said ‘8K is four times as much as 4K’ it would make her mother less confused?
The issue is TVs are a commodity. They are all good, they all do the job. Below is the TV picture I grew up on. 99% of the issues with this picture were solved the day someone invented a 720p television that did not pixellate during a football game. Since then, the improvements have been tiny. The rest is manufacture…
...“8K” is an easy concept to understand. More detail in bigger TVs. My mom can understand that easily. “It’s twice as much as 4K.”...
I got bored about 20 words into that comment and walked out of the room.
Yeah, except people with decent vision can still tell the difference between 4k and 1080p at reasonable distances. Nobody, and I mean nobody, can tell the difference between an 8k and a 4k image from a reasonable distance, and if they say they can, they’re full of it.
I’m not sure how I feel about possibly seeing the youngest Pevensie siblings’ boobs. I think that makes me old.
I understand the frustrations of these players but if your main source of income comes from streaming a single game (or if you are a content creator of any sort really) and it’s not on your own platform that you built, you have to expect these kinds of developments. You are at the mercy of the platforms in which you…
Yup. 2 billion Chinese and Indians all want their shot at the fossil fuel lifestyle. America is going to continue to use huge quantities of oil and natural gas for power generation and chemical feedstocks. Unless we’re moving to a world where plastics are going away also, fossil fuels aren’t going anywhere. Give me…
Dude, spoiler! I was going to finally watch that one.
While true (and stupid) it does at least attempt to maintain some amount of continuity as does 3 when they had to explain that what Connor received was only a small part of the real prize to justify that there were still immortals around.
Huh. Was this a fanfic? I mean, everyone knows there was only one movie and a TV series. There were NO other movies. Ever. The end.
Well, to be fair, Highlander 2 argued they were all aliens, anyway.
That, plus they won’t want to overshadow Captain Marvel too much. For now any Avengers trailers will likely be subtle rather than epic and then I’d put money on just before the Captain Marvel movie is released expect a trailer that drops her in right at the end to push more people to go see Captain Marvel at the…
I have a feeling they’re going to show very little footage in all the trailers. This seems like they (rightfully) want to keep a lot of surprises.
