Actually the 159 received lots of praise from auto mags and even won a few comparos. Seems everyone loves to jump on the Alfa hate train because it was criticized for being overweight. Interestingly, no one called a BMW 3 series comparably equipped and weighing just a hair less overweight.

I have one I dearly love.

I would hardly call it crap. Quite good actually, just that the exotic looks promised hyper GT and it was merely a good GT, kind of the opposite of the Z. All it needed was more power and some supension tuning; See Autodelta's Supercharged Brera... Truly a missed opportunity for Alfa.

Now playing

Always thought the original Saab 900s sounded pretty distinct

Boner

Too bad it's such a horrible sound. Never understood why so many owners go out of their way to amplify it. Just sounds like a farty lawn mower

Does it count as distinctive if the chances of you hearing one are slim to none kind of like a tree falling the forest? BTW I did see this very car in person not long before it was carted off by the DOT/ EPA for being here illegally.

Right up there w the Alfa Arese V6 for one of my favorite engines and sounds

And why I can never own an EV

Also one of the best engines period

It's like a Camry designed by Germans. Generically handsome-ish and pretty much invisible

You mean lack of taste....because we're going to have to look at these ridiculous lifted things driven by clue less soccer moms and spoiled rich girls blocking our lines of sight

Putting the body panels of a poser Z3 secretary's car on a Miata is insulting enough. Adding a turd 3.1 GM V6 is just plain sadistic

"in hind sight"...BUAHAHAHAHAH!

The drawings depict a second gen Escort GT. The Third gen debuted (Debutted?) in 1990. This is a first gen Escort GT (US Market) below...and no, I'm not an Escort GT fanboi or connoisseur, just possess a lot of useless knowledge

I see your point.

Not in So Cal. You still see 2nd gen Accords running around w nary a spot of rust. My GF has a '97 Accord and having lived in the mid west I'm always stunned by how immaculate the undercarriage is when I change the oil on it. Also, metal fatigue only occurs on structures that suffer continuous stress. A car's chassis

It's a tough call, but I go for the Alfa because less people know about it

Any Alfa is certainly a good start

That is the hawt sexy sex
