My friend group ended up being the opposite; more people picked up L4D2 and the first game and we ended up playing it way more. I think because Valve ported all the campaigns from the first game so when a Steam sale came along it wasn’t difficult to convince anyone.

This is the nature of software development and games. One game can be more fun, look better, do everything the customer wants, but be 100x worse in the way it’s built than another game.

That happened to me as well. After reading this I felt like a weirdo because I thought L4D was a much better game than L4D2. If it wasn’t for this article I’d be none the wiser that L4D was a broken mess.

Its not just video games - but why is it these CEO clearly screw up and make a mess of things yet remain employed? This sounds like string of bad management decisions. C-suite should pay the price. And not with a golden parachute - they should get the same severance any other employee gets. It amazes me with the focus

This will ALWAYS be a problem until you’re starting to reach actual parity. It doesn’t even matter if it’s majority-intentional or not. Dudes tend to seek out dudes because that’s what so many men have been conditioned to do.

The word “phobia” actually refers to strong irrational fear and/or aversion. You can have a phobia without necessarily being afraid. “Irrational” is the most important word there.

phobia as in aversion too. Not necessarily afraid of. Hydrophobic material isn’t afraid of water.

Phobia is not just “fear” in the traditional sense. Phobias are extreme and irrational aversions to something that are disproportionate to any actual threat the thing in question could pose.

I devoured Persona 5 Royal and Persona 4 Golden last winter and found them to be both remarkable, intelligent, compelling games with so much to say- but yeah, as a gay man, I was also let down by how they seemed to draw a line at queerness. Persona 4 is a bit more forgivable- it came out in 2008, after all, and I

So then you just didn’t read the article at all, huh?

This site regularly criticizes C-suite executives of gaming companies, and this article is explicitly about female journalists and developers. That’s the text of this article. Representation in this context refers to the gaming news desks that cover games and the development teams whose labor produces the games we all

If anyone deserves representation, it is they, whose labor produces the games we all love and play.

Though the GamerGate trolls have lessened in number since 2014 (or perhaps many of them have slunk back to their dank caves to hit their Juuls, wank, and blow the embedded food crumbs out from the crannies of their keyboards)

I’m a white man who has benefited greatly from my privilege over the years (even if I haven’t always been aware of it) so I know my voice probably shouldn’t be the loudest on this issue, but my god even I’m sick of how many talentless white men have infested this industry I love.

I’d be fine with some sneaky easter eggs in Max Payne that refer to Alan Wake or the FBC but I wouldn’t want it to go any further than that. If you treat Max Payne’s reality as some sort of dream/false reality, that really undermines all of the characters and events in that reality.

Tech dude here. I can’t make art and can’t wrap my head around the need to make art. I do not have that innate compulsion to create something with nothing but a vision and anything that I do create when I try comes out dry and soulless. That lack of understanding inherently makes me appreciate art and artist for the

I mean you’re not completely wrong but “AI” in this (and probably most) instances is just a marketing term. What we call “AI” now is just a tool that interprets data, and is bound by that data. There’s nothing intelligent about it.

I doubt many are saying that the concept of AI is bad (outside of those expecting it to end all life on earth) it’s that what we’re currently calling AI exists entirely of theft

and the fact that you dodged that entirely is bad and you should feel bad

Because they’re not artists. They’re tech dudes who think they can take something squishy and messy like art and recreate it with cold engineering. They don’t actually understand what art is, why people make it, or why people appreciate it.

Why do all the AI dudes have the artistic understanding of a literal child.
