I think part of this is because of the games they produced; the Ni No Kuni series probably gave them the confidence to invest in 3D animation. If you watch the Ni No Kuni 2 trailer the animation and rendering is actually better than this show, and it’s realtime to boot.

So, I need to say that using 3D models here looks good; but I hate to say that I don’t think it’s “Ghibli good”. If traditionally drawn Ghibli is a 10, then this feels like a 7.
