Looks pretty fun. Reminds me of Sunset Overdrive with its traversal mechanics and verticality. Not a fan of endgame loot grinding but luckily, I don’t care about loot and can just stop playing the game once I finish the campaign. Same was true of Avengers, Gotham Knights, etc.

You have no evidence that nobody remembered the name of any Avatar characters. Or any of your other claims, really. Given the established fact that the Avatar sequel was a critical and commercial success, it’s reasonable to conclude that interest in the IP (which includes its characters) has remained strong over the

It’s not a bad faith argument. It’s an objective argument based on quantifiable metrics. I have no personal stake in this debate other than a borderline obsessive compulsion to use facts and logic to prove (or disprove) specific claims. You said that Lies of P is arguably a better RPG than Hogwarts. Does that mean you

The value of the attached IP is that it comes with a built-in fanbase that will then use word of mouth to expand awareness of the product to people unfamiliar with the IP. In this case, there are two IPs: Baldur’s Gate and D&D. BG 1&2 (more so 2) are widely considered to be two of the best CRPGs ever made so that

You do realize that Avatar had a recently released sequel that made over $2.3 billion in the box office and broke multiple records? It’s the third highest-grossing film of all time. On top of that, Ubisoft is releasing a new, AAA Avatar game this year. This is all happening 13 years after the first movie’s release. Int

I haven’t played Hogwarts so I can’t offer any anecdotal opinion. I’m just looking at numbers. Hogwarts has better critical and commercial numbers than many of the nominees in various categories. For example, if Lies of P is a nominee for Best RPG, I’m pretty sure Hogwarts could be too when you consider that it had a

Does the public determine the nominees? I thought the TGA board determined that and the public only votes on the preselected nominees.

You can’t prove any of what you just said, though. If you stripped Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4 and Baldur’s Gate 3 of their respective IPs, do you think they’d still achieve the same critical and commercial success? Unlikely. IP has a huge impact on a game’s success.

Has a poorly reviewed movie ever received an Oscar nomination..? The Oscars tend to favor dramas that revolve around left-leaning politics and those are generally critical darlings. Basically the equivalent of the Games For Impact category in the TGA.

If Epic sells V-Bucks at a discount and advertises said discount in-game, then the ability to buy them from Apple/Google might as well not exist. Everyone will just buy them from Epic.

Not sure if that’s true anymore. NPD and its ilk only track games with publishers so sales figures for self-published games like Baldur’s Gate 3 aren’t reported. It seems unlikely but it’s entirely possible that BG3 has outsold Hogwart’s Legacy by now. After all, BG3 has been in the top 10 Steam sellers (usually top

If a TGA nominees aren’t based on critical reception, what are they based on..? Logically, only the top-rated games would be nominated for any given category but that’s apparently not the case, as there are several games with MC scores <= 80.

People really need to learn to separate their personal feelings from reality. What you personally think of the game is irrelevant.

FF16 wasn’t bypassed. It’s a nominee for best RPG (as is Starfield). To be clear, I’m not talking about GOTY nominations here. I’m talking about all of the award categories. Hogwarts has a higher MC score than many of the nominees in various categories, including: Dead Island 2, Ghostrunner 2, Lies of P, Party

The official TGA site makes no mention of co-op so I don’t think that’s a requirement. That said, there are other categories Hogwarts could have been nominated for. Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Action Game, Best RPG (if Lies of P and FF16 qualify as RPGs, so does Hogwarts), etc. I’m not saying that it should have

You can say that but the fact remains that it has a 84 MC score, which is higher than many of the nominees in various categories. The strength of the IP could just as easily be applied to other nominees like Jedi Survivor, Resident Evil 4, Spider-Man 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, etc.

Apparently most people think “indie” means “low budget.”

Oh, they definitely would. The fact that Hogwarts isn’t nominated for any categories makes no sense considering that the game is a critically and commercially successful multiplatform AAA game. Its MC score (84) is higher than many of the other nominees across multiple categories. For example, Dead Island 2 has a 73

Agreed. No puzzle, stealth or platformer categories. I could maybe understand stealth since it’s super niche but there are plenty of puzzle and platformer games released each year. The categories could even be combined if needed since TGA already does that with simulations and sports games.
