I’ve read the first two compendiums and I definitely noticed how the show follows the same events but switches some of the characters around.

of course but sometimes it’s the actor making a stupid decision. Carl has the opportunity of becoming the main character so it’s dumb for the actor playing Carl to choose to leave.

Carl had grown on me in the last year or two and will miss him. It was nice instead of the usual quick or gruesome death, several were able to come by and say a sweet goodbye especially with Rick and Michonne which is a nice change of pace.

Most of all, I can’t believe Karl never got himself a proper eyepatch.
