there’s something almost, i hate to say it, kafka-esque about the fifth element that makes it work so well. and the whole “9-5 schlub being hounded by an unseen bureaucrat” really helps evoke that.

on the one hand this looks really stupid and not for me, but on the other hand i am mature enough to understand that “rescue rangers” would’ve never been revived without some kind of insincere, meta-take on the characters, so whatever.

my xm2's have one foot in the grave at this point so i believe i’m due for an upgrade. also, the series has always basically looked the same, and i’ve never been 100% happy with the form factor, so this is at least something different, a slimmer profile.
