I would say the majority of people DO NOT RAPE THEIR SON’S FRIENDS because they are dissatisfied with their marital bed. Do not make light of this situation. This former student is describing rape.

When it became obvious that the pool boy thing was true, my first thought was that we’re in for 6-12 months or more stories like this coming out. There’s never just one.
And it took him so long to realize it because of the toxic coding of what men are supposed to want sexually! Of course any man wants a BJ from a woman, no matter the context of the encounter! God.
There’s something about this letter that comes off as almost....proud(?) of how much influence they think they have over their ex. Couching it in self flagellation is adding victimhood to narcissism.
No you’re not missing anything. April Showers is the cultural reference, but June Showers still makes sense. June rain showers are also 100x better than April rain showers!
Republican women are so tacky and overprocessed. Much like Southern (white) women. The men are either shlubby slobs or overgrown frat boys.
They would all be blank.
Megan this is so beautifully written and very evocative. That apartment sounds amazing (both the funeral parlor one and the new one!). Also congratulations! I got my first solo apartment at 24 and have been living gloriously and ecstatically alone for 22 years since. It is so freeing! The downside might be that I can…
I’ve lived with someone my entire life as well. If I divorced (or the worst happens) I don’t think I’d want to live with someone for a very, very long time. If ever. My husband and I get along extremely well. We split chores and help each other with larger projects. Getting there took lots of compromise and…
Time for a classic:
Do you ever wonder what would happen if a company fired a CEO and *didn’t* send them off with tens of millions of dollars?
Thank you for reaching out to say this. Thank you for understanding, and I’m sorry that you’ve been through it, too.
I’m not even an apostate, unless you look at it from their point of view! I’m still religious, just in a different faith tradition, and I lost 90% of my “friends” from that world when I converted. (Although to be fair, my conversion also coincided with going off to college and making new friends, so not all of it was…
I get really annoyed sometimes with how tv shows portray PTSD. I get that they used to not do so at all, so maybe its an improvement, but usually it’s a one or two episode arc of the character realizing they’ve got lingering trauma, learning to deal with it, and then it’s never mentioned again.
PLEASE include either the National Suicide Prevention Hotline or some other relevant resource when posting articles that discuss suicide or self harm. It is genuinely not that hard. It seems that Jezebel has fully committed to not including this information on recent articles addressing suicide.
I know several people, including family members, who graduated from BJU (huh huh, huh huh... they said BJ) and from Liberty University. In many evangelical households it’s just “expected” that your kids would attend a school like this. There’s a biblical ideology that evangelicals often lean on, that as believers they…
Heaven forfend that a Christian institution consider the context of the situation and show... Understanding? Mercy?
As someone who attended a private evangelical school that fed many of its students to BJU and Liberty, I can tell you that a lot of people go because the bubble is all they know. They don’t want their worlds to get wider and scarier - it’s safer and easier to go get your MRS degree and settle down to have kids at age…
Because they are teenagers who have been raised a particular way with particular values, and probably all of the adults who they look up to and bear on those decisions, like their parents, have values that align with these sorts of schools.
I would assume a lot of these students are young, from evangelical families and don’t have much say in the matter.
