I think the problem was when everyone saw a Final Fantasy movie it'd be an adaptation of a previous game. Instead they did what they did when they made new FF games and built a whole new universe. Maybe if they played it safe... But I guess we'll never know.

Makes sense considering how much effort they put into the story in the first place and really, how much of a movie would you get out of Kratos? I don't think any studio has the stones to greenlight an non-horror movie with that much blood and gore.
