Yep, although XENA’s second musical ep wasn’t as good as the first one.

But “Newradio” went genre for the episode in question. It’s not like MASH did a special sci-fi episode. :)

The BUFFY episode is really good and worth checking out; it’s just not as ground-breaking as it’s often described as being.

And this is where I feel obliged to point out that XENA did the musical episode thing first, three years before BUFFY. “The Bitter Suite,” remember?

Don’t get me wrong. “Once More With Feeling” is great, but it drives me nuts that BUFFY is constantly credited with inspiring the “musical episode” trend even though XENA

I remember seeing this at least twice in theaters . . . but never since.

Cool trailer, but why didn’t they give Catwoman a line in the trailer? I mean, you’ve Julie Newmar for Pete’s sake. Show that off!

That reminds me: I still haven’t read her second Lizzie Borden book yet. Have to do something about that.

Hey, it’s only Book One. Ask me again when we get to Book 10. :)

And speaking of tie-in novels, let’s give DARK SHADOWS some love, too.

Been a while since we’ve had new DS book . . . .

To be fair, they have included Trek novels (including some of mine) in the past. Not sure why none made the cut this time around.

And this is where I shamelessly mention that the first of the new LIBRARIANS novels, based on the tv show, debuts the October:

It’s perhaps worth noting that this is hardly a new trend. See “Metropolis” (1927), “The Lonely” on The Twilight Zone, “My Living Doll” with Julie Newmar, “The Stepford Wives” “Cherry 2000,” the original “Westworld,” etc.

Movies and television have been obsessed with robot women since the silent era.

STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION made a point of establishing that Data was “fully functional” in its very second episode!

Not that they ended up doing much with this . ...

I still think this would make a great movie. Get on it, Warner Bros.

You’re probably onto something here. You’ll note all of my nominees are from the seventies . . . .

His run on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY was also good. (Shame OMEGA never got a proper ending.)

And Gerber’s run on THE DEFENDERS remains my favorite run on that title.

Can’t pick just one, but:

John Ostrander/Tom Mandrake. THE SPECTRE.

Steve Englehart/Frank Brunner/Gene Colan. DOCTOR STRANGE.

Marv Wolfman/Gene Colan. TOMB OF DRACULA.

Steve Gerber/Sal Buscema (?). THE DEFENDERS.

Or sticking the Space Needle in Tacoma? :)

I’m from Seattle: Canadian bacon and pineapple pizzas are the best.

Cato: So discovered, regarding New Yorkers and pineapple pizza. I will never forget the look of utter horror and bewilderment on Norman Spinrad’s face the first time he encountered the concept. (How’s that for name-dropping.)

And I remember another New Yorker telling me that that was the most disgusting the thing she
