If only Square Enix could pause the video game industry, to give itself time to think about butchering my childhood with the cynical and poorly executed adoption of what it believes to be “Western” gaming conventions.

I always thought Chrono Cross ought to have been its own IP. It followed up Chrono Trigger, a playful romp through time, with a relatively dark and moody commentary on identity and fate. It was hard to love it on the first play-through when you were expecting another Chrono Trigger and got something very different.
