If a Nurburgring time was included in an ad for a Grand Caravan, that would be cool. “Oh, your Sienna is nice, but did it share a track with some of the most powerful cars in human history? Nah, didn’t think so. Come in today for the low, low offer of $0 down (89.99% APR)“

I dunno about that. There’s plenty of stories on here about extended warranties that pay out many times what they were worth.

I am disappointed in my fellow gearnerds: no one’s linked to the relevank XKCD:

post collision braking

Simple. Take the stereotypical audience of jez, mate it with the modern meme- and pop-culture connotations derived from the name “Becky”, and there’s your explanation.

Oh I would totally add real light bars but make them...pink and teal. Nobody can blame you for trying to have a party!

+1 checking SUVs for black steelies as I pass.

Consider that used Chevy volts are 15-18K used, and they have a range of like 50 miles EV only. An i & a generator is, in my mind, significantly cheaper while providing most of the same benefits.

yeah, that phrasing was my fault. I wanted to augment the battery range of the i, not replace it. Why would one even go to the trouble of converting an EV to gas?

Oh, yeah, I think I wasn’t clear. I wanna keep the battery and electrics. A small little gas generator, even if I have to get a mini trailer for it, could double or triple the range the few times a year when I need it. I think sticking it in the trunk, or cutting out one of the rear seats (!) could be possible. Fun to

It’s definitely more of a pipe dream than a feasible concept. Working with batteries is different than working with ICE’s, in that the former can kill you much more easily. EV’s also don’t charge while driving, and changing the programming to allow for that is no doubt a challenge.

Mad max called, they want their early design prototype back.

On a serious note, if we ever get a gearhead in office, a “tax” that requires donating to a car museum in exchange for a one-time waiver to import and register any car would be awesome.

my first thought! I’ve always wondered if one could rig a little generator in the back for the i-miev.

*my* next question is what qualifies as a “museum”.

Well duh, everything’s upside down in Australia!

I feel like it might be a “it’s not about the money, it’s about sending a message.” type of deal. 87 is for the peasants, I light up the 89 button at the pump not because I have to, not because it has a measurable improvement in any way, but because I can. Heheh.

Pfft! That’s, what, a net loss for Tesla for a single quarter?

Waitasec. Wasn’t the Leaf (or, at least, early generations) explicitly slammed for having poor battery heat management?

I like to think the opposite. Customer wants to be stupid? Let ‘em. Land of the free and whatnot.
