Oh my god it all makes sense now. The reason Stephen Totilo hasn’t released Dark Cloud 3 yet is that Jason is constantly delaying it! WHY JASON. Did you join Kotaku specifically to shut down Dark Cloud 3? Is that not enough? Now you had to delay Final Fantasy also?

Just be cool Nintendo. Come on now. For the first time in your storied existence. Just BE COOL. Look the other way.

This could be a good thing: nobody is better equipped or motivated to recapture the best of Sonic than enthusiasts who loved those classic games so much they started making games to recapture that magic BEFORE they were getting paid for it.

Sure. Not all great tastes taste great together. There are some properties that simply should not try to become certain things.

I’m pretty okay with this honestly. The structure and characterization of flagship Pokemon games doesn’t translate to good meaningful storytelling in a movie. Just look at, say, animated Pokemon cartoon movies. They’re not good! That is not good film making!

Does the game have a sense of humor or joyfulness to it? For my money THAT is what modern Square Enix RPG games lost and need to find again. Chrono Trigger had drinking contests and talking to demons about human suits and a silly sham trial all in the opening act.

The bit about Intelligent Systems makes sense. I know they have been hiring, but it still seemed surprising that they would be able to get a full HD Wii U game out so soon after their monster 3 part plus DLC Fire Emblem Fates game.

That will depend very much on the nature of the NX. Blowing it one console generation hardly guarantees a repeat poor performance. I think that fans should have a healthy skepticism though certainly.

Well it’s all they have on the Wii U, yeah. Nintendo gave up on the Wii U more than a year ago. All their development resources were redirected to whatever the NX is. Since they didn’t want to show that yet, all they had for E3 this year was Zelda and leftover games that are finished but still being localized (Paper

FF XII is second favorite game of all time :P It’s like a JRPG, but with all the anime drained out of it. So, for me it’s the perfect video game. It’s crazy to me that FF XII came out pushing limits in storytelling, localization, ambition in technology and freedom... and then JRPGs for the next decade were all “No

So you criticize a game for feeling 10 years old but praise another for feeling 20 years old? I dunno, I don’t follow. I criticize I Am Setsuna for feeling like a 20 year old game.

Honestly I spend a lot of time waiting for your next article period. I understand that you’re the boss man now so filling the site day to day with your thoughts isn’t the job so much, but I miss having more of your stuff to read. It’s like you only come out of hibernation for Assassins Creed and some first party

Those games are secretly some of the best handheld games around. I understand why it wasn’t localized (We had just come off a ton of late Gen DS games nobody purchased) but it is a bummer.

That is super interesting to learn! Never would have guessed.

Better question: Where is Ragnar McRyan? How did our burly Scottish soldier man not make the cut TWICE? I can understand going with Alena over him, and I can understand going with Torneko over him. Those two are really vibrant characters that would play in unique ways. But the gypsy sisters and Kiryl? Come on now.

I’m pretty sure that all upcoming Dragon Quest single player RPGs ARE slated for international release. DQ 7 and 8 remakes are already locked in, and DQ 11 is 100% certain because even if Square doesn’t want to do the HD version you can bet your hat that Nintendo will chip in for the 3DS release. That’s what they do.

That’s good. I can totally understand there being more imaginative locations they just don’t want to spoil. That still leaves me wondering why they made a demo reel of all the more typical locations, but whatever. I’m no marketing executive.

I’m not entirely sold on what I’m seeing as far as a coherent aesthetic or distinct art. An awful lot of these shots could have been plucked from any open world game. I get that they’re rolling with the “Fantasy based on reality” concept, but this looks a little too grounded for my taste. The best Final Fantasy games

I always felt like the Golden Sun games (particularly Golden Sun 2, the best of the three) filled the void for “JRPGs with actual level design” that Lufia left behind quite nicely. In fact, I think that with their variety of Psynergy powers and fun pointless mind reading those games did it better.

Who makes these CG video game movies anyway? Like, who’s the director, what animation studio is working on it, who’s the director of photography? I wonder if they just got the studio that’s churning out those CG Resident Evil movies.
