I think it’s somewhat common among Italians in the US as well. Or maybe that was just the “Italians” in my bumblefuck PA hometown.

Yeah I’ve been aware of Slutwalk forever and this is the first I’ve heard of Amber’s association with it.

Okay, you know what was the worst thing about that movie? It was supposed to be set against a backdrop of sea turtle preservation (you know how they all have some kind of thing going on). There were almost no sea turtles in that movie. WTF man? Who promises sea turtles and doesn’t deliver?

Not.... really? I mean, I guess I still don’t see why you’re happy about this except that you didn’t like her blog which seems a little ridiculous. I’m also concerned that you’re teaching your kid that he should base his behavior on how people may react whether it’s fair or not. So I think we’re at a draw here.

Oh sure!! Maybe I’m reading OPs comment wrong, but it seemed like they were saying “these people are both awful and no one learned a lesson.” And I’m curious as to what lesson the blogger was supposed to learn. Don’t use photos that don’t belong to a giant corporation in case they get mad?

Well, I was just curious since you implied that someone should have grown from this.

Sure, but why is the earth charred to a crisp?

You are not. WTH is going on there?

Sorry, what learning should have been done here?

But he still wouldn’t deserve it, and they would still be wrong.

Really the only thing to be said for Luann is that she’s batshit, but not quite so self-absorbed that she’s going to participate in screeching at top volume while civilians are just trying to enjoy their dinner.

Sure..... but they have consequences that are proportional to what our actions are. You can’t just, say, arrest someone for swearing and say “your actions have consequences!” They’re not related.

Running her mouth? Wtf is this, a mafia movie? What a dumb thing to say.

But she’s not making fun of those. Specifically and purposefully. In fact, if you’re familiar with her blog at all, she’s quite clear about the fact that architecture has ignored the homes of the “normal” people historically, and so the McMansion that the nouveau riche now buy are like a form of classist karma.

It seems pretty clear to me that Zillow used a classic C&D scare tactic. They know they have no case, but they want her to stop using the photos, so they send a strongly worded letter filled with legal jargon, assuming (probably because it’s a tumblr blog, possibly because she’s a young woman) that she will not

As the article notes, having a strong case and having the money to pursue that case are not the same thing. Zillow’s case is so laughably weak (esp. bc even if this wasn’t clear fair use, Zillow doesn’t own the photos anyway) that I’m 99% sure they thought that, precisely because she IS a 23 year old woman, they could

She actually did. She’s been very open and clear that her use of Zillow photos falls under fair use.

And they have so much confidence. They wouldn’t feel threatened by Hermione’s success or neglected if she had to work late, because they are also crazy successful and have to work late sometimes.

Molly....AND ARTHUR. I swear to God, I think Arthur Weasley may be the most unsung hero of the books. Molly had her own problems as a “parent” figure but Arthur (and, to be fair, Lupin until his breakdown re: Teddy) was just a wonderful, wonderful man.

I actually quite like Ron, but you’re absolutely right that the usual hard-charging woman + lovable slacker = balance and bliss is absurd. Because the lovable slacker never gets it together, really.
