No. Nobody finances cars expecting them to go up in value.

I can’t help but notice that “ride sharing” (which it never was) has become “ride hailing”. Uber and/or Lyft should have been ride hailing platforms sold to existing taxi systems. Otherwise in their current forms, Uber and Lyft are parasites. I don’t know how else to say it.
You’ve convinced your wife to get a car you don’t have to worry about replacing for another 14 years (at least) Happy wife, happy life.
My brother had a similar situation. Was going to get a new car when his Corolla died. He tried to sell at at carmax but they offered him like $500 for it and he’s not the type to sell the car to someone on craigslist or autotrader. He said for $500, he would run it into the ground till he got his Tesla Model 3. He…
Back in 2008, I made fun of my girlfriend for buying a boring, black, “value trim” 1998 Corolla for $2000, considering how many better, more fun cars could be got for the same money, like my Neon.
11 years later, my “better and more-fun” Neon has long since went to the scrapyard, while my now-wife’s trusty ‘yota keeps…
Seriously, what does Raphael suggest they do? Not offer highly profitable products in high demand and “stick it to the man” by building vehicles people literally aren’t buying from any automaker? OEMs are always investing in the future, guess how you fund that???
The QX80 gets stolen when you’re a couple months behind on payments, $25,000 underwater because you rolled your last negative equity vehicle into the loan, but you do have GAP insurance.
This.
The biggest danger of geoengineering is the potential for unintended consequences we can’t- or don’t have time to investigate. Iron seeding for example might be a great way to spur algae growth, which in turn can be a carbon trap, but how does that affect local ecology? Temperature distribution? Cloud seeding with…
Is there anything we can do about it?
Years ago I had a bunch of enviro types over for a party. I worked in the field so everyone there was serious about environmental protection. Two of them started excoriating me for using paper towels. I pointed out that between them they had five children and I had one and that I could dress my child in paper towels…
We can stop it. Nuclear winter would limit the light allowed to reach the earth’s surface, and throw us into a mini ice age.
It’s self correcting, eventually. Runaway climate change would lead to a drastic reduction in world population due to starvation, disease, and war over resources.
I LIKE your grandfather’s style.
Family legend has it that my grandfather, a small town Indiana guy, had someone park blocking his driveway during an event that brought a fair number of people into said small town at some point in the 60's. He didn’t need to go anywhere, but really didn’t like knowing he couldn’t, due to some jackwagon parking in his…
With direct injection diesels and gas cars sound pretty similar today.
They lose money on every one they sell but BY GOD they are going to make it up with increased volume!
Anyone else wondering how long they can exist like this? Tesla seems to exemplify a new era of company that’s overvalued and under performing, makes no profit but continues to get capital somehow. It makes no sense. Uber and Lyft are the same.
“Tesla has already show that electric cars can be built profitably.”
We are more than 10 years in now and Tesla is still bleeding hundreds of millions per quarter. Keep telling yourself it’s right around the corner....
