In the past, these speeches are released to the public! If you want to weep nostalgically, here’s a video of Obama with the 2016 teacher of the year. Video released by the White House. (Interesting that the White House is censoring this one....

You’d have to go back pretty far in history to find any cuisine that wasn’t borrowed, adapted, and appropriated. Pasta was from China, spices from India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka, tomatoes and potatoes from the Andes....it’s all one big messy fusion exchange (sometimes violent, sometimes through trade). I think the

Best soft ice cream I ever had was on the street in Stockholm one summer. If you like mild, creamy milk products, Sweden is awesome.

Is this a joke? I thought it was satire when I read the headline. Who would watch this show?

I highly recommend that museum in Bath! It’s fantastic. For fans of Jane Austen, you can see the rooms depicted in Persuasion. The museum, if my recollection is correct, is below. I spent several dreamy hours on a rainy day there. The amount of labor and artistry that goes into the older dresses is stunning and

I thought the most effective parts of the first season were the least violent. Like the horror of the sterile grocery store with all the women in red gowns and pictograms instead of words because they aren’t allowed to read...or the repeated phrase “may the lord open”... or the chilling gaze of the commander’s wife.

Wow, our bail system is so messed up! Low level offenders are kept in jail and go into massive debt or are abused and imprisoned by bail bondsmen because they can’t afford a few hundred or thousand dollars in bail. And then someone who is accused of multiple violent crimes is released on bail?

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. Major, major mania episode.

Actually, I doubt anyone wants more than 3 princes and princesses. All those people have to be supported along with their spouses and kids for the rest of their lives. None of them will likely work, or maybe just symbolically for a few years, and they will need an allowance, apartments, titles etc. The queen is

I feel like it’s just an act. He’s yucking it up for the camera. He runs a big money-making construction firm and other businesses. That was true before the show. Surely he can’t be such a clueless idiot in real life! I would love to know if he is a different person off camera.

She seems really, really into the job aspect if you hear any of her interviews. More power to her. It would be depressing to go into it because you wanted to live in a palace, only to find out that the palace is actually kind of run-down, drafty, and poorly decorated. At least she is very motivated to make an

Well, she did herself a disservice in that engagement video when she tried to claim that she hadn’t really known who Harry was or anything about his family before they met. Bitch, please. Anyone who has ever read People magazine at the dentist or stood in a supermarket checkout line knows about his family. It was a

Right, but I think a lot of people don’t know that they aren’t so much acquiring help as taking on another responsibility. It can be a great cultural experience for both family and au pair, but the family needs to be realistic about what they are taking on. My mom, for example, ended up having to clean up after our

We had an au pair for one year while my family was living abroad. She was only about 10-15 years younger than my parents, but my mom says it felt like having a teenage kid in the house. She would stay out all night and we had to pry her out of bed in the morning. I’m not sure it saved mom very much labor! I

There is nothing more difficult than standing in front of a group of people and letting silence be. (I know this from my teaching career...). It’s interesting to see the audience reaction - silence makes people so uncomfortable! Some feel the need to fill it - cheering, chanting etc - until the silence sinks in.

AT least we don’t have to include a headshot and our marital status, like in France. Seriously, imagine having to put “divorcee” at the top of your resume.

Too bad. “Tiffany Mechanic” sounds like the ideal Barbie doll name circa 1986.

Aw...my mind felt that way about running. My hips and knees...not so much.

Haven’t they been skating partners since they were like 9 years old? I’m not sure I’d want to marry someone who had been my intense symbiotic partner since childhood, either. That’s a bit too many shades of Cathy and Heathcliff. Maybe they truly care for each other but know each other a bit TOO well and have too

Claire Foy is brilliant!!! She says more with a raised eyebrow than most actors convey with a heated monologue. Also, Matt Smith has the distinction of being markedly less compelling than the person he portrayed. It’s a rare case where the film actor is a lot less attractive than the real person.
