I can’t keep up!

Fuck off with that bullshit. There’s only 12 million undocumented immigrants in the entire US. And maybe you’d like to go pick all the produce that those people pick in the sweltering heat for meager wages.

I won't deny, I still casually use the slang from those books in my everyday vocabulary.

I was coming to post the same thing. A unique voice, like nothing I had read before, I devoured the book and the sequel, then anything else I could get my hands on.

Neil Gaiman better be in fucking EXCELLENT health.

This is another totally reasonable question that I’m going to suck at answering because I’m not well read enough. To be clear, written SF is very diverse and has always encompassed a wide range of visions. What I’d really like to see is a change in the tone of the SF we see on screens.

I actually think that getting immersed in a big story is a desirable luxury for people now precisely because they are reacting against what you describe. That’s why long-form TV series have become so huge.

As few as possible. Multiple drafts implies lots and lots of editing. Editing text is like doing surgery on a living body—it might be necessary but it leaves scar tissue and it has side effects. So I like to proceed gradually.

Gruff military guy's ex-girlfriend is murdered and this makes him go on a hyper-competent super masculine mission of investigation and revenge. Presumably, military protagonist is excellent at his job but has just enough stubble to be sexy. While avenging his dead plot contrivance whose gender coincidentally is female

It does look gorgeous. But it also look like the same boring fairytale I've seen over and over.

I've become so used to seeing Helena Bonham Carter in Burton's rubbish films that I have an instant knee-jerk reaction to anything she does anymore, and I used to be a big fan.

That must make their students of color feel so supported. Way to be, teachers. Thanks for making the rest of us look bad.

There is also a new Seanan Mcguire October Day book and Benedict Jacka Alex Verus book. They both were released today.
