It is the same everywhere. There is a trope, here, that one can always count on the poorest Americans to vote directly against their own interests. I hope that this is less true, now, than before, but people voting en masse against funding for health care and strong public education does not reassure.

I don’t envy the people who have to redraft all the legislation that mentions the EU and renegotiate every agreement that fell under EU membership individually.

This will impact a lot of working class Britains, the people who voted to leave.

Hopefully this will be a wake-up call to people about the dangers of right-wing populism. Groups like UKIP and the National Front aren’t just fringe elements anymore; they are successfully appealing to millions of working class white Europeans, disenchanted with bureaucracy and blaming migrants for their ills.
