They laugh now, but what they don’t understand is that they will be next. They should understand how necesary it is to have a free press.

TL;DR- Gawker outed a very rich guy as gay nearly 10 years ago. He held on to a grudge and when the opportunity arose (Hulk Hogan sex tape) he pounced by financing Hogan’s lawsuit against Gawker.
The truly sad thing is that had to deliver their own pink slips.
He funds a bunch of people who have gripes with Gawker, who may not have otherwise had the money too, and overloads them in court debt.
All the sites have done great reporting. The investigative reporters at Deadspin who reported on Greg Hardy and Kevin Johnson, for example, are an inspiration to our news team. Jezebel has been doing some great politics coverage. Gawker got people talking about the allegations against Bill Cosby before that became a…
Thanks for the support and positive wishes, all.
For real, thanks everyone for reading and for the support, every time one of you says something nice about the site or our work it means a lot. Probably more than you think. Special thanks to everyone who has tweeted at me about Suikoden 2. <3 <3 <3
Structure can/will still change though. New investors might have a new idea for revenue. Overtime, they will change/integrate the userbase into whatever new style and system they want.
Actually, Peter Thiel effectively said that Gawker could blame him, since he admitted to bankrolling this whole thing.

I never really understood the hate for jezebel. Have you ever actually taken the time to READ Jezebel?
I’m crossing my fingers that the new owners understand what you guys do and let you be. You’re easily the most consistently good writers on the Gawker platform, and my guess is that ad-revenues reflect that. Also, you do actual journalism, unlike most Gawker sites, which is a huge deal. I may not support Gawker in…
I knew I just had to wait for some sort of catastrophe for you to announce your love for me. Ily2 jason
What does that mean for Kotaku? Thankfully, not much. We aren’t going anywhere. [...] At some point this year, we and the rest of the sites at our company will be doing what we do under a new owner. That’s a ways off. For now, you can expect us to proceed with business as usual. We will continue to try to put the…
But here’s the thing: Even if Gawker were really the most wretched hive of scum and villainy in the universe (hint: they aren’t), the “litigate ‘em to death by a thousand debts” precedent is a terrible thing.
This was due to an unprecedented legal assault financed in secret by Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel.
we love you, too
Thanks to everyone who keeps reading and supporting Kotaku. We love you all.
