This all has to do ONLY with the HDMI passthrough on the Xbox. It has nothing to do with being a smart TV, being Microsoft, or anything of the sort. You can pipe a PS3 or 4 through the HDMI in. And no one is asking anyone to purchase more services if you don't want them.
