He impregnated a woman against her will in order to .... prove something? Get you back? Everything about this is horrifying.

Ugh.

Honestly, I was so wrapped up in his narcissism that I tried to make him feel better. At that point in our relationship, it seemed very normal (plus I’m naturally easy going). BUT IN RETROSPECT....

Oh, how about seeing the man you’re currently dating (and madly in love with) freak out of over running into a woman he never actually dated and her husband of, like, five years? “What does he have that I don’t? He has a really cool job, blah blah blah...”

If it’s after the wedding related activities are over (I assume you guys will extend your trip and separate from most of the other guests), then it’s fine. It sounds more like a vacation proposal, a vacation that the bride and groom wanted you to have.

I guess it depends how much it took away from your pictures. I’d intended for people to use my photographer to get family/couple/friend shots, but even so I was miffed when my stepsister told me she wanted to make sure her daughters dressed nicely, not for my wedding, but because there would be a professional

Let’s have fun naming people who were already well off or rich before they hit their big personal successes.

Kittens! I’ve seen people bring their pets in carrying cases, but never in a bag!

If you bring something that cumbersome on the El, you are obligated to stand back against against the door that goes between cars.

“Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them.”

That reminds me of a night at semi-sleazy gay bar with my friend R, the kind with giant TVs playing music videos. We were sitting at the bar, drinking the well liquor special when R slammed down his plastic cup and shouted, “Samantha Fox? Naughty Girls Need Love Too? Well I need love, too, Samantha Fox. I need love

Something tells me that story wasn’t submitted as a “look how awesome customers are” but rather as a “can you believe these dumb poors?” Good on Pinkham for reframing it.

BERWYN IS NOT CHICAGO. Ahem. Just needed to make that clear.

I really, really, really wish my widowed mother had found someone to settle down with. The loneliness and isolation have not been good for her or her kids. More than anything, I hope my husband remarries if I predecease him because otherwise, he’ll end up like the old man in Up.

I was oblivious until one day, walking down the street with my mom, a car honked at us. My mom turned, ashen faced, and said, “Oh my god, they were honking at you.” I was probably eleven or twelve and had been honked at before, but hadn’t really gotten it.

It’s not her fault, regardless of how she responded.

Yeah, that’s silly advice. You know what’s better advice? Make an effort to set a positive/loving tone when you get home from work, wake up, see each other after an absence.

Haven't read the post yet, but just wanted to say

And the wall of baby pictures staring down as you wait to get your blood drawn... Oh man. The woman getting her blood drawn ahead of me was chatting to the nurse about how she was on her sixth pregnancy because she just loved having babies!

Like my grandmother’s table? So there will be matzo ball soup and kugel, and WHO AM I KIDDING, my grandmother was a mother from the 1950s who cooked out of cans, jars, and frozen bags.
