No, the paper’s lawyers said there were examples in the public press with her true age, and therefore they couldn’t confirm that she had been lying about her age, personally, and therefore were uncomfortable publishing under the title of her being a “liar” - which they didn’t.

In my opinion he’s never had one. I don’t understand why people think he’s so attractive with that crazy weird nose and mouth.

People beef, it’s a fact of life, I find it more annoying when someone wants to make amends under the guise of feminism or they can’t stand having someone on earth not want to be their friend.

From what I recall (which is hazy) the articles also implied that her whole persona was an act and that she isn’t really a “bogan” (it’s really hard to define the nuances of this word for non-Australians — kind of like a suburban redneck, but without necessarily any racist connotations) which would be pretty damaging

I thought there was more of a problem around the fact that they say she went to a posh school when she said she had a different background. She seems to be hired for her persona ( she often seems to play a similar character that fits with her projected image) so if that image is thought to be fake then it all gets

Has anyone heard if she is difficult to work with or something? Because two of those roles she allegedly lost were for voice work, and ain’t nobody losing out b/c they use a stage name and deflate their age. I mean, Russell Brand was in Trolls and he’s an admitted sex addict. Not that I care about that, but it’s a

The piece in question suggested that she lied about her age and name. It made it appear like she was obfuscating in order to make herself more marketable.

I’m in the greys so kudos to those of you who brave the wilds of the greys. Anyway, I recalled an interview she gave on the Letterman Late Show where she shared the story behind the name ‘Rebel’ and went on to say her siblings names were Riot, Liberty, and Anarchy. It’s one thing to give yourself a stage name, but

But if I find one article, or ten, where PootMcFruitCakesJr does not lie about his PhD, that doesn’t prove s/he *never* lied about it.

That said: I don’t know that there necessarily needs to be a black Tomi Lahren.

I know I saw her on talk shows where she discussed all of her siblings also having weird names, along the lines of Rebel. As far as I knew, her name was Rebel. She was on major talk shows talking about being named Rebel, replete with a back story about growing up with the name.

The defamation isn’t because they called her “older”, it’s because they called her a “liar”. Rebel Wilson shtick is the overly confident, obliviously obnoxious, overweight Australian woman. Calling her a liar and saying it is about her age and name hurts the Overly Confident and Obliviously Obnoxious parts of her

Esp since Tomi is 23 (24?) and was just given her online platform because she’ll spout whatever Beck wanted her to say and she looked the part. Meanwhile, there are black women out here, hustling, making their own platforms and content. Respect the work that these women put into that.

I think you’re being misleading there: the magazine found public material showing her true age, and therefore they could not prove she’d actively lied rather than this being a multi-year misunderstanding. They could not guarantee a legal shield, having demonstrated intent, against court action saying she “lied”.

Exactly. There are plenty of black women out there doing the thing and doing it better then Glenn Becky With The Bleach Out. Maybe throw them a retweet or a shout out rather than just acting like they’re not there.

Because it’s not so cut and dry: yes, there were examples of her actual age and upbringing in the public, but the bulk of the public material suggested something else.

I avoided How to be Single for a long time because I thought that Rebel had a main part. When we eventually did watch it, I realised that her part was mercifully small, and that I actually liked the movie.

In emails published by ABC News Online in Australia, Nementzik reveals that research indicates Wilson had never misrepresented her age, and has admitted her real name is Melanie.
