What you described sounds an awful lot like Dying Light, yes. I didn’t talk a lot about night in the article, but let’s just say there were missions I avoided completely because of how certain zombie types unsettle me.
I’ve seen so many bad games that try new things only to fail spectacularly.
That’s odd. The first thing I knew about the game was that it was a parkour game.
Zombies are ‘the floor is lava’ in Dead Rising. It’s a game about survivors, not a game about zombies. Marketing doesn’t see it that way.
Oh, you’ve played a lot of open-world parkour games, have you?
Dead Island sucks. Dying Light is nothing like Dead Island. So far, out of all the games released this year, Dying Light is my current favorite. Pillars of Eternity is looking to overtake that. Bloodborne is interesting but I’m not sure if it’s gonna be the best thing ever.
But... it’s not a rip-off. There is literally no game quite like Dying Light, even if the basics can be found in other games. Its parkour is nothing like Mirror’s Edge or Assassin’s Creed. The way it handles Zombies, especially at night, is nothing like ZombiU or Dead Island or Dead Rising or State of Decay or any…
Not sure I understand—it’s trying to be realistic. It attains that goal. It’s set in a Turkish city, which is way different than most games I’ve played. Honestly, I thought it was pretty unique in terms of its approach to architecture.
No, because I made them for this article.
I love Call of Duty and Dying Light.
Except that I am a perfectly healthy individual and I enjoy violent, excessive media precisely because it is not real. The game is appealing because shooting things in games is fun; it is in no way unhealthy.
It’s more intended to address people who write off games because they’re ‘not original,’ not because they’re good.
I can’t say I had many problems aside from a few CTDs early on. They patched performance within the first couple of days.
Make haste to earning the grappling hook, that’s all I’ll say.
I had hoped this article would clearly explain how it’s very much not like Dead Island, which is slow, boring, and has awful shooting (the rocket launcher accuracy on my gun-specific character would often mean I was firing 90 degrees away from where I was aiming, which killed me whenever it fired at my feet).
Funfax: Dead Island 2 is being made by the Spec Ops: The Line guys.
Fortunately, it didn’t do that. It’s actually kinda amazing how unlike Dead Island (I beat Riptide like a month before) it is, in a good way.
Serious question: when does a mechanic go from ‘shameless ripoff’ to ‘genre standard?’
The gifs are 3 MB apiece. That’s 12MB.
