The world needs more mysteries. I have a conspiracy theory (more of a conspiracy hypothesis, really) that good mysteries are being deliberately avoided by the powers that be, in an effort to keep people from thinking critically and analytically.

But you have NO idea what actually happened. You hear a story that two people got drunk and fooled around and you declare that the male involved is a rapist. You have no more evidence that he raped her than you have that she raped him, or that they somehow, absurdly, raped each other. You are rushing to judgment…

Good for her neighbors. Imagine not just having to call the cops on a suspect, but having to bring three of them to the police station yourselves. And these suspects are accused of having raped and attempted to murder a kid. Nothing works if people don't have the spine to stand up for each other.
