Plentiful here in flyover country.

Exactly. That’d be a trick with two unibody vehicles.
The 850 chassis claim is more than a little dubious, given that both vehicles have unibody construction.
I’ve owned two e34s and one bigger brother e32; these are great cars. NP all day long.
This is a pretty cool development. Adding hybrid capabilities is in a way akin to adding a turbo or supercharger in that the electric motor adds to the ICE motor’s output. My wife’s car is an ‘06 Lexus RX400h, which is essentially a Prius with close to 300hp. When you put your foot to the floor, it moves quite well.
Very cool.
I regularly drive a few miles out of my way just to buy 87 octane that doesn’t have ethanol, and it costs more (is that weird?) Seems like 99% of the stations have ethanol blended in everything but premium, and that’s about 60 cents a gallon more. I see about 3mpg difference using pure petrol vs 10% ethanol on my…
Weird, but I kinda like it.
“Electric technology isn’t quite ready for 18-wheelers, mostly due to the long distances they travel”? Tell that to the railroad industry. They’ve been using diesel hybrids for decades.
And where was the driver’s phone? Right on his lap. Any bets on why he pulled a stupid move like that? Dipstick. Put the damn phone in the glovebox if it’s that big a temptation to you.
Should be interesting to see how this plays out. Kind of reminds me of this project, where a Model A was modernized with a Cosworth mill. The sounds it makes are just so much more satisfying than the original engine.
This is a dangerous game you’re playing.
Borderline masochism? Compared to what? I’ve been working on old (and not so old) BMWs for years, and while some jobs are slightly hateful, old parts come apart relatively easily, and new parts fit together the way they should, are easy to come by and aren’t as expensive as some complain.
Reminds me of the Suprang build; take one 1965 Mustang, cut away certain bits to make bits from an ‘82 Supra fit, weld it all together, and...
I was able to attend the Geneva International Motor Show, and was very disappointed at BMW’s showing there. I came away from the show with over 200 photos, and realized as I was going through them that I didn’t take a single photo at their display. Lots of cars on display, and lots of people pawing over them, but zero…
Actually the M30s in e28s, e32s, & e34s had top-load cartridge filters too. Far easier for oil changes than the spin-on filters on the M20s.
I do, but driving different vehicles messes me up. In three out of the four vehicles I use, I know that I can maintain 30kph most easily in 2nd gear, and 50kph in 3rd. That fourth vehicle is geared higher, and I find myself going way too fast.
That was immensely fun to read. I could see me doing everything you did (and more) but taking a year or more to do it. Well done, and thank you!
“...while the people have borne the cost.” There. FIFY.
