So, you're like a Jew in that respect: "white" until some bigot finds out you're "not". Then it gets all kind of special fun...

I don't care how Kim identifies, but Caucasian doesn't necessarily mean white American. There are a great number of people from the Caucasus who are definitely not white-passing. The word "Caucasian" shouldn't even be used as a synonym for white; that usage is based on an outdated eugenics theory.

Her use of general description instead of specific names is actually (probably unwittingly) clever. She highlights shared characteristics that everyone can relate to, rather than ethnic sounding names that some people (perhaps many of her fans) may mentally trip over a bit. I'm pretty sure she knows all their names.

So what's the alternative? She just keeps her mouth shut because she didn't understand it sooner?

I wholeheartedly agree. People aren't born realizing these things. I grew up thinking that most racism was in the past, and the only racists left were out in east Texas wearing hoods but they weren't a real problem for most people. How wrong was I?! I am not about to mock Kim Kardashian for growing as a person and

You have a point, but is it really worth shitting on her because she didn't get it sooner? For some people (actually, a lot of people), it takes direct experience with an issue to understand it's importance. It's not ideal, but she can't exactly go back in time can she?

Jesus, cut the girl some slack. I think it's cool that she did this. It seems logical that having a biracial child would change the way that you engage with topics like this, can't fault her for trying to be a more aware person.

I agree. I think this is a good thing and I hope she turns a new leaf.

Reading Kim's essay, I see a young woman who was deprived of an education, and that makes me sad. It seems more likely than not that the people around her saw her obvious beauty, and never encouraged her to think critically about much of anything. I appreciate that she's trying to address these issues now, but

I'm going to give Kim the benefit of the doubt. She's lived in an extremely narcissistic world and having a bi-racial child is waking her up to the importance of other people's lives and experiences. Growth, at any stage and from any beginning, is a good thing.

Kim Kardashian is 33. She has dated/married several black and biracial men in the past. Her sister is married to a black man. Her father defended OJ Simpson. How is she just now realizing that racism exists?

I'm pretty sure she was going for stylistic continuity, notice none of the other examples have proper names given.

Eh. She may be late to the party, but better late than never.

I think it's difficult for most people to admit their ignorance the way that Kim Kardashian has with regard to racism. I don't understand the instinct to mock someone for this. Thinking that these issues are everyone else's problem is not actually that uncommon, especially for this generation. So good for her for

I'm lucky if I can get a selfie worth posting on my Twitter in 355 attempts.

BECAUSE KRISTY THOMAS WAS A BIG OL' LESBIAN AND WANTED TO KEEP THE BABYSITTERS CLUB A CLAMBAKE!

Thank you. There's nothing inherently gendered about the word "babysitter". Now, if it were babysittress or vagina-having-mother-surrogate, I could see it.

I love that Chris Hemsworth married Elsa Pataky who is 7 years older than him. That's awesome. Just like Hugh Jackman married Deborra-Lee Furness who is 13 years older than him.

Okay, I feel pretty confident in saying that Ariel Winter's mother is awful. Insisting that your estranged daughter watch a slideshow of "happy" childhood moments in court? That is some A+ vindictive and manipulative behavior.
