Lantern placement is the reason I’ve beaten Maria three times and Orphan only once.

There’s really on benefit to the long corpse runs in Souls games, but from my understanding every Souls game since the first has decreased how often you have to do them (and how long they take) so it seems pretty obvious that the designers are getting on the same page as the players.

Yeah I totally respect people that like Souls games, but the repetition just getting back to the fight isn’t fun for me.

So, when I first played Dark Souls, I used a wiki and it really let me fly through it much faster, as it taught me the moves. Then I lost interest. I figured out these games aren’t for me, or any game that requires a wiki or a time sink to lewrn. I love the concept of Stardew valley and terraria, but as I get older

Hades is actually a great example, because in that case, it actually feels rewarding when you die!

and don’t forget the load times when it first released! I ended up switching out my ps4's hard drive with an SSD so that BB would load a little bit faster after (frequent) dying lol

That’s both a grosse exaggeration and a false equivalency.

There was a boss in Dark Souls 3 that was powerful enough that it killed me in like 2 or 3 hits, and all those hits came right at the start of the battle. It genuinely took me probably a couple hours of in-battle time (so imagine how many deaths) to really get a handle on the boss.

Celeste came up in another thread recently and it’s really the perfect example of how to make a hard game that doesn’t disrespect the player’s time and effort. You barely lose any time when you lose and every challenge is something that’s visible to you when you start your run; there are no surprise kills like in

I gave up on the second boss because running back through 5-10 minutes was a chore. that’s all Bloodborne was to me, after awhile: a chore.

That’s called playing the game. If you’re gonna call those difficulty options then literally everything is and words have no meaning.

Worse still, unlike in Dark Souls, you needed to get those healing vials. And if you ran out, you’d have to farm a bunch before you could attempt the boss again.

More accessibility/difficulty options in a game is always a good thing. There’s no reason I can see (other than an appeal to the tryhards) that a “director’s vision” experience cannot coexist with options, sliders, and whatnot that make the game’s content available to the vast majority of your customer base.

People thinking Souls’s’ss’ games are some immutable, unchangeable work of perfection seem to neglect the fact that Elden Ring has taken a baseball bat to its original design about seven times now like Abby going golfing. My disc version I can install offline is a wildly, *wildly* different experience than current

I’ve played and finished every FromSoft game, and I would love to hear an explanation of the difficulty options.

“I don’t like games having difficulty options” are saying they don’t want the choice to be there. The choice being there does NOTHING if they chose not to engage it. The choice NOT being there affects everyone else who would have engaged with said options... so its gatekeeping. Who the hell are YOU to dictate whether

Having an option does not make a game worse.  That’s gatekeeping.  You’re saying that if someone can’t keep up with the difficulty YOU are comfortable with, they shouldn’t be allowed to play the game.  Other people having the choice to lower or raise difficulty has no effect what so ever on the difficulty you play on.

Apparently I woke up in crazytown because someone is suggesting Persona 4 is the weakest of 3/4/5.

Almost flipped my shit about Persona 4 being so low...until I figured out you were counting all of the re-releases.

Still too god damn low if you ask me.  Persona 4 is peak Persona.

I reckon joker needs to be higher for the precedent it set. Everyone watching live thought it was just P5 for switch. And showing that Joker was coming to Smash told people that all bets are off; ANYTHING is possible for smash now
