The big question, then, is why? Shutting down a game critic, even one as loud and brash as Sterling, is going to result in bad PR. There's almost no way for this to look good for the creator.
The scanning is what I loved the most about the Prime trilogy. There was all of this really great story and world building in those scannable objects but you, as the player, had the choice to engage in it or not.
