how are lower class sex workers safer when prostitution is illegal? They can't go to the police if they need help cause wouldn't they be arrested? It seems it would be safer for them if prostitution was legal and protected by the law (and actually taken seriously by police, which is its own topic)

Genuine question: how is prostitution integral and necessary to society? I think its more like a luxury product that no one really needs.
