You've chosen as a previous other, I'll label it the choice of Context. ( a.k.a needing more info on the situation before picking a choice. )

Is this entire comment thread for real? Are people seriously saying "god this picture is so true because I was bullied in school"? Boys and girls are both bullied in school. It's, like, an incredibly alienating time to be alive. That sucks. I remember it, and I'm sorry to anyone else who experienced that. What also

try being a girl gamer born in 1987. made fun of my entire childhood for being a geek, and now accused of faking said geekiness in order to attract males or seem interesting.

Here's a hint: you probably weren't picked on for liking video games. There were probably some other factors involved.

Also, I'm not sure if you were aware of this, but every woman is not an outlet for your leftover insecurities from high school. Get over it and learn to treat other people as people.

Yeah, I was shit on by girls in my teen years too. I was also shit on by guys, for the same reason. It doesn't give me (or you) the right to shit on anybody else now, especially since we're (presumably) adults.

Because it really hurts when you're constantly harassed by the community that you want to be a part of.

They aren't separating themselves. They are being pushed out by guys who call them "fake geek girls." They are just acknowledging it and trying to push back against it.

What about the video posted above made you think that this was a relevant image to post?

That is quite possibly the stupidest picture I have ever seen in my life

It's funny. Gamers leap to accuse a girl of being a fake geek...then the moment they speak out to demonstrate they're not fakes those same gamers leap to accuse them of trying to hard and that they should just shut up.

"You're a fake geek girl! You're just doing that to get attention. PROVE IT!"

Except when those that "don't matter" physically, verbally, and sexually harass you. Then just ignoring them becomes a whole lot more difficult.

The same reason people are proud to be christians, or metal fans, or sports enthusiast or whatever.
Because we like being proud of what we are and love, and it makes it easier to find people with the same interests.

I'm glad that Kotaku posts articles like this because I'm utterly exhausted by how straight white males have dominated all discourses. It's wonderful to be introduced to a broad spectrum of identities and beliefs.

WTF? Paranoid much, guy?

Website pride. And here I thought "school pride" was stupid and infantile...

Why hasn't this become a Kotaku Shop Contest idea yet? Turning Western game covers into more happier versions and vice versa, turning Japanese covers into angry versions.
It would be amazing!

Kirby is mad as fuck.

I'd be mad too if I were Kirby. It must take him 4 months to float over here across the Pacific.
