For the Tina Fontaine case they were unable to determine cause of death, there was no DNA evidence to link Cormier or anyone else to her death. The case against him was entirely circumstantial and while it is likely Cormier is guilty, the jury must convict beyond a reasonable doubt. Likely isn’t good enough.…

The two stories have been making the rounds in Canadian media and one of the big takeaway morals of the story that people seems to be repeating is the idea that:

If she had been a white girl those cops would have made sure she was safe and she never would have been killed in the first place. The Canadian system designed to keep children safe failed at multiple levels and then the prosecution mucked the case up to try to show they were doing something.

White Canadians poured money into a gofundme for Colten Boushie’s killer. They are probably getting ready to do the same for this one. White Canadians are just as racist as white Americans. Maybe this can be the beginning of ending pretense there is no racism in Canada, and actually working to eliminate racism.

Not sure which lie is worse: the “Colton was a grown-ass man who was drunk when he and his friends tried robbing a family and then got himself shot” lie or the “This indigenous Canadian” lie.
