(None of you absolutely tremendously stupid greys seem to grasp that *if they transferred him to a KZ-Lager because of his celebrity* he is a much, much worse Nazi than the article says.
Plus, an ethnic German wouldn’t be in the SS without being a party member. Of course, as a member of the police, he would been in the SS de facto (Himmler controlled all the police forces under the Algemeine SS), but that would have been around 1936 or so, which isn’t consistent with joining the Luftwaffe in 1933.
(Addendum: he obviously could have been a guard at a Luftwaffe POW camp. But I don’t remember any Stalag Luft at Buchenwald, and the Allied soldiers and airmen who ended up at a KZ-Lager did not exactly have Wehrmacht buddies hanging out with them)
(TLDR: you can’t be an ethnic German camp guard without being in the Totenkopfverbände, and if you were in that you are de jure a pretty decent level war criminal.
